The Pelicans are having “serious” internal conversations about Willie Green, per Rod Walker of NOLA.com.
New Orleans is 0-5 and Walker wrote that some players appear tuned out to Green’s messaging.
The bigger issue is that the group has not consistently played with the force needed to survive the Western Conference.
The Pelicans did show more competitive spirit against the Clippers on Friday. They erased a 17-point deficit in the third quarter and tied the game late before Kawhi Leonard hit the winner.
Green said he liked the response even in defeat. New Orleans has now lost 12 straight games dating back to last season.
— Jordan Poole delivered his best game since arriving from Washington, per Walker. He scored 30 on 9 of 15 shooting off the bench. Green said Poole is adjusting to coming off the bench but called him a dynamic hub for the second unit.
— Kevon Looney is close to making his Pelicans debut, per Mark Medina of EssentiallySports. Looney is recovering from a left knee sprain and is questionable for Sunday in Oklahoma City.
— In a longer interview with Medina, Looney said he has tried to lead even while sidelined. He said he wants to use his voice and experience to help the group until he is cleared to return. Looney said the team has stayed connected and has practiced hard throughout the losing streak.
