The Philadelphia 76ers wouldn’t mind making a couple more additions to strengthen their roster ahead of the 2024-25 season, and ESPN’s Bobby Marks has a new suggestion of who they should target next in the trade market.
According to the former Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager, the Philadelphia 76ers should consider shopping for Grant Williams because of his ability to stretch the floor and versatility on the defensive end.
“How does Grant Williams fit with the team long term? Williams has three years and $41 million left on his contract, and he has value with the Hornets and teams that are looking for a stretch 4 (hello, Philadelphia 76ers),” Marks wrote in his latest article.
Grant Williams is coming off the best campaign of his NBA career, averaging 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range across 76 regular season games for the Dallas Mavericks and the Charlotte Hornets.
His production improved drastically when he was moved to the Charlotte Hornets in the middle of the season, where he became one of the team’s go-to guys due to their lack of talent overall. However, it is worth noting that Grant Williams failed to make it to the postseason for the first time in his NBA career.
As things stand, the Philadelphia 76ers have a starting lineup with Tyrese Maxey and Kelly Oubre Jr. in the backcourt, Paul George at the 3, Caleb Martin at the 4, and Joel Embiid at the 5.
With Kyle Lowry, Jared McCain, Eric Gordon, and Ricky Council IV on the bench, the Philadelphia 76ers have enough depth at the guard position. Meanwhile, Andre Drummond and Adem Bona will back up Joel Embiid at center.
The forward depth is tricky for the Philadelphia 76ers, as KJ Martin is the only backup power forward behind Caleb Martin, making Grant Williams the ideal add candidate.
