Philadelphia 76ers: Kelly Oubre Scores Season-High Points to Stop Three-Game Slide
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

While the Philadelphia 76ers are far at risk from losing their spot at the play-in, the three-game losing streak they endured near the end of the season may have reminded some Philly sports fans of the catastrophic collapse their Eagles endured at the end of the 2023 NFL season.

While the losing streak they’re experiencing may be attributed to the absence of Joel Embiid, he could be back on the roster in time for the play-in tournament. Until then, the roster had to make do without their marquee player.

While the past three games saw them deal with disappointing collapses, they finally ended their losing streak thanks to the grand efforts of one of their players.

Kelly Oubre’s 32 points seal Sixers win against the Toronto Raptors

It has to be said that the Toronto Raptors are far from the most threatening team in the Eastern Conference, and beating them isn’t a clear indication of how good an NBA team is.

However, the game also gave Nick Nurse an idea of which players he could count on when two of his star players he can count on. The game saw Kelly Oubre carry the offensive load for the Sixers as his 32 points, seven rebounds, and three assists helped the Sixers cruise past the Raptors.

Nurse poured his praises on the journeyman forward who used his experience to help his team crush the team he used to coach for.

Per an ESPN piece published on 6abc Philadelphia:

Oubre shot 10 for 22, matching a season-best by making 6 of 11 3-point attempts. Philadelphia made a franchise-record 24 3-pointers on 43 tries.

“Every time it seemed like it was really getting closer, we came down and made a good play for an open 3,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse said. “I don’t know how many times we answered those rallies with a 3.”

The 28-year-old has established himself as a reliable scoring option after scoring more than 20 points a game in his last season with the Charlotte Hornets. This season, he’s putting up 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists on 44%/30%/75% shooting splits.

Understandably, the Sixers faced tough teams in their three-game skid. They collapsed against the Sacramento Kings and choked against the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The comfortable win against the Raptors was a welcome change of pace for Nurse’s men.

Other notable Philadelphia 76ers players that stood out vs Raptors

Oubre wasn’t the only one who stood out in the game that didn’t have two of their star players available.

Kyle Lowry showed his worth to the squad this game. The one-time NBA champion had an impressive double-double of 10 points and 11 assists on his former team, showcasing the playmaking chops that helped the Raptors win their first NBA title.

Tobias Harris and Cameron Payne also showed their worth as rotation pieces, scoring 21 and 24 points, respectively.
