Paul George has not met expectations since joining the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer, as he was handed a four-year, $212 million contract.
Back then, it was viewed as the move that would transform the Sixers into Championship contenders. Instead, they are set to miss even the play-in tournament and have one of the worst records in the league.
On an individual level, George has been terrible. He has averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.
As a result, that $212 million contract for a player who has been mediocre at best is starting to feel like one of the worst in the league. He will make $51.6 million next season and $54.1 million in 2026-27. He has a player option worth $56.5 million for the 2027-28 season.
At 34 years of age, it is very possible that George has entered his downward trajectory and it is all downhill from here.
According to a report from Hoops Wire, the 76ers will try to trade George this summer. Some members of the Sixers wanted him traded at the NBA trade deadline
Of course, trying to find a trade destination for George won't be simple. There was rumored to be interest from the Golden State Warriors before the deadline but they have acquired Jimmy Butler since then and look like a team reborn as a result.
It is not just form that has been an issue for George. He has struggled with injury problems throughout the course of the season as well and has played only 41 games so far.
That will not make him an attractive option for many teams around the league. A 34-year-old on a downward trajectory and struggling to remain fit.
