The Phoenix Suns are still working on a potential contract buyout with All-Star guard Bradley Beal. In the two seasons he’s been with the team, Beal has not played like a star and has often missed games due to injury. The Suns are hoping to move on from him and concentrate on building a competitive group around Devin Booker.
The first major move for Phoenix was trading away Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. In a league record, seven-team deal, the Suns received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Khaman Maluach (No. 10 overall), Rasheer Fleming (No. 31 overall), Koby Brea (No. 41 overall), Daeqwon Plowden (Atlanta Hawks), a 2026 second-round pick and a 2032 second-round pick.
The deal also involved teams like the Hawks, the Brooklyn Nets, the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following that move, the Suns hope that Beal will agree to a contract buyout.
On Sunday, NBA insider John Gambadoro gave fans an update on Beal’s situation with Phoenix. According to him, he expects the organization to decide on the three-time All-Star’s future in the next 24 to 48 hours.
“I expect a decision and resolution on Bradley Beal’s situation in the next 24-48 hours,” the insider reported on X.

During his two-year stay with the Suns, Beal has only appeared in 106 games compared to the 164 games he could’ve been a part of. He never averaged at least 20 points per game and only put up 17.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
In his first year in Arizona, the team was swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves. They hoped to be better the following year. Unfortunately for the Phoenix Suns, the team underachieved and missed the postseason.
After that, it was clear to the front office that they needed to move on from their attempted Big 3 and start anew.
The Phoenix Suns are determined to end their partnership with Bradley Beal. During the 2025 NBA trade deadline, the Suns wanted to organize a trade for the one-time All-NBA. However, he exercised his no-trade clause, preventing the team from fixing a deal. According to him, he didn’t want to leave the organization.
However, his time in Phoenix is over. As the front office and the star guard are in the middle of negotiations, Beal is reportedly exploring his options on which team will likely pursue him once the contract buyout is over. Marc Stein of “The Stein Line” reported on Sunday about Beal’s situation.
“Bradley Beal is actively exploring his options with other teams in anticipation of a Suns buyout, league sources tell @TheSteinLine,” Stein reported on X. “There will be considerable interest in Beal once he becomes an unrestricted free agent.”

One team that has been interested in him in the past is the Miami Heat. The Heat has been linked to Beal, as well as the recently waived star Damian Lillard, this offseason.
