Phoenix Suns Facing Pressure After Devastating Kyrie Irving News

The Dallas Mavericks have their own 'Curse of the Bambino' brewing for their franchise after trading Luka Doncic before the NBA Trade Deadline. Kyrie Irving is the latest recipient of that developing trend of bad luck. As unfortunate as this news will be for the Mavericks, an opportunity now presents itself for the Phoenix Suns.

The Mavericks watched Anthony Davis hit the shelf, getting injured in his debut for the franchise after getting off to a dominant start. Irving will now join Davis on the injury report. His placement on there will be permanent for the rest of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Shams Charania broke the news on Twitter/X today that Irving is done for the year.

"Breaking: Dallas Mavericks All-Star Kyrie Irving has suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee, sources tell ESPN."

Kyrie suffered the injury in Tuesday night's matchup against the Sacramento Kings. It was initially thought to be a left knee sprain before the devastating news delivered by Charania today.

With no Davis or Irving moving forward, the Mavericks are now in serious danger of dropping out of the 10th seed in the Western Conference. With 3.5 games separating the Suns and Mavericks in the standings at the moment, Phoenix should have every opportunity to claw their way back into a Play-In spot despite a troubling campaign of their own.

The Suns have been playing terrible basketball of late. The team has lost eight of their last 10 games. However, perhaps seeing a door slam wide open in front of them can revive the troubled franchise.

The Suns will actually get a head-to-head matchup with the Mavericks in a few days. They will be in Dallas on Sunday night after a couple of tough matchups against the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets.
