One of the biggest stories in the NBA offseason will be Kevin Durant‘s future with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have received offers from various teams around the league regarding the trade price for Durant. One of the teams that has been interested in acquiring KD is the San Antonio Spurs. The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski also reported on Monday that the All-Star forward prefers to play for the Spurs next season.
However, there haven’t been any offers from teams, including the Spurs, that have captivated the Suns’ front office. Being an All-Star, the organization believes it can acquire a boatload of assets in exchange for Durant in the trade market. Although he’s 36, he’s still one of the best players in the league.
On Tuesday, former Spurs front office employee Kirk Goldsberry reported that the Suns have two significant demands in a potential trade.
Goldsberry revealed on the latest episode of “The Zach Lowe Show” that they are looking to acquire either the No. 2 pick or Stephon Castle in a deal.
“On the Zach Lowe show, Kirk Goldsberry (used to work in SA front office) confirms what Gambo thought last week – Suns want 2nd pick or Stephon Castle for Kevin Durant,” Paul Garcia reported on X.

“I know our friends in San Antonio think the price is too high in the original discussions including the number two pick and/or Stephon Castle, are not going very well on the Spurs end of the telephone, I can tell you that … the Phoenix Suns are asking for too much,” Goldsberry said on Zach Lowe’s program.
The Spurs aren’t willing to part ways with the draft pick. And for their plans with Castle, they loved his rookie season and believe he could be a part of something big for the future with De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama.
It’s been reported that the Phoenix Suns star isn’t interested in playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, that doesn’t mean that a potential deal between the two organizations is over.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania appeared as a guest on “The Pat McAfee Show” and revealed that there’s still a chance for Durant to play for the Wolves.
“Clearly there’s not an interest for Kevin Durant to go there, but Minnesota wouldn’t be the first team to trade for a player that doesn’t want to be there. The Raptors did it in 2018 with Kawhi Leonard – he didn’t want to go there, he wanted to go back to L.A. but he goes to Toronto and wins a championship that year,” Charania said.
“It’s not something that’s revolutionary. From my understanding Minnesota is still studying it. They’re not out of it. They’re trying to figure out if there’s a pathway where we can make this gamble, bring Kevin Durant in, still be able to build a roster.”
Adding a star like the Phoenix Suns’ star could increase the Minnesota Timberwolves’ chances at winning an NBA title.
