Former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham believes that Jordan Ott will do well in his new gig as Phoenix Suns head coach.
Before taking the Phoenix Suns job, Ott worked as an assistant for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 40-year-old tactician also worked previously with Darvin Ham as one of his top assistants in Los Angeles from 2022 to 2024.
“Him riding shotgun with me and sort of my special teams coach, helping me with special situations, helping me with overall offensive and defensive concepts that we were trying to implement,” Ham said about Ott via AZ Central’s Duane Rankin. “We didn’t win a championship, but we had a great amount of success in that situation. There’s no one more deserving, man. He’s a humble kid, tough, smart.”
“He can move in any room. It can be the rich of the rich or the poor of the poor. Guys who are struggling trying to get into the league, guys who are max players. Guys who are superstars. Guys who are super duper stars. He’s able to communicate with a variety of different people. His message is simple, but straight to the point, detailed, and efficient. I’m proud of him,” he added.
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly expected to give Devin Booker a new two-year, $150 million extension next month, per renowned NBA insider Marc Stein. The extension would make Booker the highest-paid player on a per-year basis in NBA history, with an average annual salary of $75 million.
Booker is entering the second year of his four-year, $220 million deal. If he signs the extension, it would keep him under contract with the Phoenix Suns through the end of the 2029-30 season.
This year, Booker averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on 46.1 percent shooting from the field across 75 regular season starts.
