Even with a top-heavy roster, the Phoenix Suns still managed to make some important moves in the offseason. Along with hiring Mike Budenholzer for the head coaching gig, the front office have signed San Antonio Spurs champion Brent Barry as one of his assistant coaches.
Barry entered the league when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 1995 NBA Draft . Shortly after, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. During his career , Barry played for several teams, including the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Seattle Supersonics, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets. He was known for his passing abilities, three-point shooting, and versatility to play multiple positions.
Barry won two NBA championships with the Spurs in 2005 and 2007. He also won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1996, becoming the first white player to do so. After retiring as a player, Barry worked as a sports commentator for the NBA on TNT and was a studio host for the NBA TV show NBA Gametime.
In 2018, he returned to the Spurs as an executive, serving as the team’s vice president of basketball operations. Currently, Brent Barry was hired as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns.
After a disappointing run last season, the Suns are doing whatever they can to improve. One of their recent moves is to hire Barry as an assistant coach, as seen in a post by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski on his official Instagram account.
