Pistons Among Teams Interested In Timberwolves’ Naz Reid, Pacers’ Myles Turner

There will be some moves to be made for the Detroit Pistons this season, and attempting to land other teams’ free agents may be among them.

Per Marc Stein of The Stein Line, one of those potential free agents is Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid, who holds a $15 million player option on his contract.

Along with that, the Pistons are monitoring Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner — an unrestricted free-agent-to-be.

But signing either won’t be easy. Not for anybody, not for Detroit.

“The Timberwolves have made it known they have strong interest in retaining Reid and there’s another notable obstacle for the Pistons here: Even if Reid makes it to the open market, Detroit won’t have substantial salary cap room to try to outright sign him away from the Wolves if it is also hoping to re-sign sharpshooter Malik Beasley and/or veteran guard Dennis Schroder. (Tim Hardaway Jr. is another Pistons free agent-to-be.),” Stein wrote.

“Turner, meanwhile, is widely expected to re-sign with the only team he has ever known after his contributions to Indiana’s second successive trip to the Eastern Conference finals in his 10th season as a Pacer.”

As we wrote earlier, the Pistons could also have some interest in Atlanta Hawks wing Caris LeVert, who played for coach J.B. Bickerstaff during their run with the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeVert is also an unrestricted free agent.

As for the Timberwolves, yes, there’s a strong sense that they want to retain Reid, as well as Julius Randle, who also holds a player option on his deal ($30 million).
