Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons are aiming to make a deep run in the Eastern Conference after a breakthrough season last year. Cunningham fully emerged as a star, posting career highs across the board while appearing in 70 games.

The 24-year-old guard averaged 26.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 9.1 assists and 1.0 steals, shooting 46.9% from the field and 35.6% from three-point range. He earned the first All-Star and All-NBA selections of his five-year career and finished seventh in MVP voting. Cunningham has impressed with his elite court vision, versatile scoring ability and leadership as a primary ball handler and decision-maker. He has consistently elevated teammates while refining his own game.

As Cade Cunningham prepares for Monday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, aiming to lead the Pistons to a third straight win, he appeared on the Pistons' injury report.

The team announced that Cunningham is dealing with a left hip contusion and a right facial contusion, according to Hunter Patterson of The Athletic. Fortunately, he has been listed as probable, suggesting the injuries are minor and he is likely to suit up.

That is a positive development for Detroit, as Cunningham has picked up right where he left off in 2025–26, averaging 23.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 9.0 assists through the first few games. His shooting percentages have not matched his career averages yet, but he will have time to bounce back and shoot the ball more efficiently the next time he suits up. If he is unable to go for Monday’s game against the Cavaliers, his next opportunity would come Wednesday against the Orlando Magic.

The Pistons will continue trying to take meaningful strides this season in a wide-open Eastern Conference. Cunningham remains the face of the franchise, having stayed committed to the organization through years of rebuilding while waiting for the team to become competitive. He was selected first overall in the 2021 NBA Draft and is now in his fifth season with Detroit, still searching for sustained playoff success.
