The Pistons will be without Isaiah Stewart for the foreseeable future.
Stewart has been ruled out indefinitely with a left calf strain, according to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.
Stewart for some time.
“It’s something he’s been dealing with and it had been getting worse,” Bickerstaff said. “He gutted it out last game and you could see he was favoring it late. It’s something we’re going to take time with.”
Stewart has been a key part of Detroit’s rotation, averaging 10.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 23.1 minutes per game.
The injury likely ends any chance Stewart had of meeting the NBA’s 65-game minimum required for end-of-season awards, despite what had been a strong defensive campaign.
Stewart had played seven games since returning from a suspension stemming from a February 9 altercation with the Hornets.
His absence should open more minutes for reserve center Paul Reed, who has produced when given the opportunity. Reed is averaging 13.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in eight starts this season.
