Pistons make Duncan Robinson stance clear amid rumors

The Detroit Pistons have had an interesting free agency period, recently signing forward John Collins to a contract as rumors swirl around the future of Jalen Duren. The Pistons already dealt Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies in an apparent cap-clearing measure, but as of yet, no major moves have materialized on Detroit’s roster.

One rumor that has been swirling is that the Pistons are planning to release sharpshooter Duncan Robinson; however, recently, that had cold water dumped on it by NBA insider Chris Haynes of Prime.

“Contrary to speculation, the Detroit Pistons will not be waiving marksman Duncan Robinson, league sources tell me,” reported Haynes on X, formerly Twitter.

Many were initially confused when reports surfaced that Detroit was considering waiving Robinson, especially considering the talent that Detroit has already lost or is at risk of losing this summer, including both Duren and Tobias Harris, who is also exploring the free agent market. Robinson had a strong year for the Pistons, at times being the only reliable source of outside shooting for a team that clearly needs an upgrade in that department this offseason, and having some strong moments for the team during their playoff run, which ended in the second round against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Pistons fans will likely be happy that the marksman will be back in the fold next season, but Detroit is still clearly a ways away from legit contention for a title, and it’s unclear if they’ve gotten any closer to that goal this offseason, especially if Duren, Harris, or both were to find the exit ramp in free agency.

In any case, it could be an angsty next few days for the Pistons and their loyal fanbase.
