Pistons rookie Jaden Ivey signs with Gatorade

There are high expectations for Detroit Pistons rookie and No. 5 overall pick Jaden Ivey this season.

Ivey's athletic ceiling and play-making ability make him a potential NBA Rookie of the Year candidate. He, along with last year's No. 1 overall pick, Cade Cunningham, are huge parts of arguably one of the most exciting and potentially dangerous young rosters in the league.

Ivey was a star in college for Purdue, and if he can bring that star power to Detroit, look out for what he and the Pistons can do this season.

With those expectations in place, it's no surprise that Ivey has signed with Gatorade to be part of the sports brand's "elite athlete roster".

"Gatorade has always prioritized identifying the next generation of athlete talent. Jaden comes from a deep sports background in his family, and it’s clear he wants to make his own mark on and off the court, so we see a very bright future ahead for the newest member of the Gatorade family," Gatorade Global Head of Sports Marketing Jeff Kearney said in a release to Yardbarker.

Ivey, naturally, seems excited about the signing as well.

“It’s surreal to be signing with a brand as iconic as Gatorade because I’ve looked up to Michael Jordan my whole life," Ivey said. "Joining the Gatorade family is a huge honor and I’m excited to continue to build on the legacy of Gatorade athletes past and present as I start my NBA career.”

Ivey averaged 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 2021-22 for Purdue. It will be interesting to see how those numbers translate to the NBA.
