Porzingis Commits to Golden State

Kristaps Porzingis has officially re-signed with the Golden State Warriors on a two-year, $40 million contract, keeping the 7-footer in the Bay through the 2027–28 season with a player option for the second year.

Warriors Held Him As Top Priority

The Warriors made retaining him a top priority this offseason, and on June 29, they secured the deal. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. emphasized throughout the spring that he was central to the team’s plans, and the contract structure reflects both commitment and flexibility.

The Warriors held his Bird rights, allowing them to exceed the salary cap to keep him without sacrificing roster-building tools.

Porzingis’ Impact on the Court

Porzingis arrived in Golden State via a February trade from the Atlanta Hawks. In 15 games with the Warriors, he averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks. His ability to stretch the floor with three-point shooting and protect the rim gave Steve Kerr’s rotation a new dimension.

He also delivered in high-stakes moments, scoring 20 points in a play-in victory over the Clippers before an ankle injury limited him against Phoenix.

Health Concerns and Recovery

The contract comes with calculated risk. Porzingis has battled postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition affecting heart rate and stamina.

He also dealt with ankle issues late in the season. Porzingis has been candid about his offseason goal: regaining full health. If he succeeds, Golden State gains a versatile big man who can anchor both ends of the floor.

Roster Context

Golden State’s decision to re-sign Porzingis arrives amid broader roster uncertainty. Draymond Green declined his $27.7 million player option, and the team recently re-signed veteran Al Horford.

Rumors continue to swirl about potential pursuits of stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but locking in Porzingis ensures the Warriors maintain size and shooting in the frontcourt.

What It Means for the Warriors
