Throughout the entire year, and especially during the NBA trade deadline period, potential trade destinations for former Texas Longhorns and current Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant have ramped up.
The Suns have not had a good year, with very minimal chances to make the playoffs, even with the restructured play-in games, and their 'superteam' plan has failed.
Another team who is looking to make a change is the Dallas Mavericks, who traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, and almost immediately after the trade, they lost Kyrie Irving to a torn ACL.
Kendrick Perkins on ESPN's NBA Today says that the Mavericks could take a run at Durant in the offseason.
After fans chanted "fire Nico" at the Mavericks-Lakers game in Dallas, the first time Doncic made his return since the trade, Perkins brings up a way to fix the situation between the fans and Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison.
"Go get KD to pair alongside Kyrie and AD," said Perkins.
This move would immediately make Dallas a superteam. It would reunite Irving and Durant, who had good chemistry when they played together in Brooklyn.
If the Mavericks were to somehow be able to pull of a trade while keeping Davis and Irving, and enough of their depth core in tact, the Mavericks could make another run to the NBA Finals.
While there is still time left in the hourglass for the Mavericks this season, planning for their future, albeit limited with Durant, could bring back more of the fans that make Dallas one of the top destinations in the NBA.
