The Miami Heat have made an interesting move just a few days before training camp. This move in question is Pat Riley and Co. acquiring former Knicks star, Precious Achiuwa, on a one-year deal, which is a reunion for the storied franchise, as they were the ones who drafted him into the league as the 20th pick back in the 2020 NBA Draft.
While Achiuwa seems like a solid addition for the Heat, what makes this move so interesting is the fact that he’s on a one-year non-guaranteed deal, which, although it will not make any impact on the organization’s standard roster, is set to affect Miami’s four Exhibit 10 players. According to Heat reporter Anthony Chiang, the team will now have to cut at least one player to open a spot for Achiuwa.
“It’s a fully non-guaranteed one-year contract for Precious Achiuwa, a source confirms. So, no move to the standard roster is needed now to stay under the tax. But Heat will need to cut one of its Exhibit 10 players to open a spot on its preseason roster for Achiuwa.” Chiang wrote. This means the franchise will have to select three players from Jahmir Young, Gabe Madsen, Trevor Keels, and Dain Dainja
