Projecting the 2028 Team USA Men’s Basketball Roster
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The USA Basketball men’s team could look a lot different in 2028. LeBron James and Stephen Curry will be past their 40th birthdays, and Kevin Durant will be approaching his.

Durant, however, would be given a provisional yes from Team USA officials if he decided to suit up for the Americans one last time, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

Team USA men’s hoops managing director Grant Hill said he’d consider Jaylen Brown for 2028. Brown expressed his disappointment for not being the replacement for Kawhi Leonard, as his teammate Derrick White earned the nod.

Despite Brown’s comments, Hill is confident the two will be able to sit down together and come to a mutual understanding at some point.

Here are some of the candidates for Team USA in 2028.

Guards

Tyrese Haliburton

Jalen Brunson

Anthony Edwards

Devin Booker

De’Aaron Fox

Tyrese Maxey

Cade Cunningham

Derrick White

Forwards

Jayson Tatum

Jaylen Brown

Mikal Bridges

Paolo Banchero

Zion Williamson

Kevin Durant

Josh Hart

Jalen Williams

Bigs

Bam Adebayo

Chet Holmgren

Anthony Davis

Jaren Jackson Jr.

Joel Embiid

Projections

I think it’s a safe bet that Edwards, Tatum, Booker, and Haliburton will be on Team USA in four years.

Given Davis’s and Adebayo’s versatility on defense, it’s a safe bet they’ll be back as well.

Brunson’s professionalism and demonstrated ability to win at a high level should earn him a spot, as he can be an effective replacement for Curry.

I predict that Durant is going to run it back one last time and earn his fifth gold medal.

The rest of the roster is up for grabs, but what a talented pool to choose from.
