NBA restricted free agent Quentin Grimes has been predicted to sign a $67 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
NBA writer Dan Favale of Bleacher Report thinks Grimes will re-sign with the Sixers on a four-year, $67 million deal.
“This dance between player and team is giving off an air of inevitability,” Favale wrote. “Grimes and the Sixers will reach a multi-year agreement, with some team flexibility, that guarantees him a notch above mid-level-exception money. Prediction: Quentin Grimes re-signs with the Sixers on a four-year, $67 million deal, with a team option in the final season.”
This has been a difficult offseason for Grimes and fellow restricted free agents Jonathan Kuminga, Cam Thomas and Josh Giddey because there are no teams with cap space to sign them to offer sheets. Grimes will most likely be back with the Sixers. We just have to wait and see what the contract will be.
The 25-year-old Grimes played for the Dallas Mavericks and Sixers last season. He averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks in 75 games while shooting 46.7% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 75.7% from the free-throw line.
The Sixers acquired Grimes from the Mavericks on February 4. Grimes appeared in 28 games with Philadelphia, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 46.9% overall, 37.3% from 3 and 75.2% from the foul line.
A Houston native, Grimes has played for the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Mavericks and Sixers. He enters next season with career averages of 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks.
The Sixers missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 2017. All-Stars Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey only played in 15 games together due to injuries.
