Raptors Fill Open Roster Spot with Canadian Forward

The Toronto Raptors have signed Canadian forward Eugene Omoruyi to a 10-day contract, rewarding his impressive performance with Raptors 905 this season. Omoruyi fills the roster spot vacated after the team waived Bruno Fernando earlier this week.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 235 pounds, Omoruyi has been a standout for 905 this year. In 14 games this season, he has averaged 19.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists over 28.1 minutes per game, shooting 57.7% from the field and 35.4% from three-point range.

Born in Benin City, Nigeria, Omoruyi moved to Toronto as a child and developed his basketball skills locally. He attended Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario before playing college basketball at Rutgers and Oregon. At Oregon, he led the team in scoring during the 2020-2021 season, averaging 17.1 points per game.

After going undrafted in 2021, Omoruyi signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks. He subsequently spent time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, and Washington Wizards where he appeared in 43 games last season.

His addition to the Raptors' roster is expected to bolster the team's frontcourt depth with Jonathan Mogbo now seeing an extended stretch in the G League.
