The Toronto Raptors have had a disappointing season thus far, but they have lived up to expectations.
Toronto is still trying to rebuild their roster and entering the season, they were expected to be a team that would be right on the outside of the final Play-in spot in the Eastern Conference. That is exactly where they currently as the Raptors are holding the 13th seed in the East with an 18-40 record.
Despite their disappointing season, Toronto has put together a roster full of solid young players. These players include their core of Immanuel Quickley, Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett and Gradey Dick, as well as their trade deadline acquisition of Brandon Ingram.
With the Raptors building a solid young core for the future, it may just be a matter of time before they are once again contenders, especially with the likelihood of them receiving a top pick in the loaded 2025 draft.
While Toronto has built a solid young core, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus recently predicted that one of their young stars may end up having a bad-value contract in two years.
In Pincus’ recent article, he predicted the worst-value NBA contracts in two years. Of course, his list of 10 players focused on older stars from around the league, but he also provided an honorable mention list full of players on rookie-scale contracts, which Quickley surprisingly landed on.
Quickley is set to make $32.5 million per season through the 2028-29 season, and he has gotten off to a rocky start with his contract. Of course, the Raptors acquired the young guard as part of the OG Anunoby trade with the New York Knicks last season, but he has struggled during his time in Toronto.
The 25-year-old guard has played just 18 games this season due to injuries. Due to this, his production has dropped off since last season.
Despite this, Quickley still has a ton of his career left as he has yet to enter his prime, and he still has a lot of talent to prove Pincus’ prediction wrong.
