The Toronto Raptors entered Sunday’s game against the Golden State Warriors still navigating a challenging stretch marked by injuries to key players. Among those sidelined was forward RJ Barrett, who has been out of the lineup since Nov. 23 due to a right knee sprain suffered during Toronto’s win over the Brooklyn Nets when he landed awkwardly after a dunk attempt.
The injury was diagnosed as a sprain with no structural damage on MRI, but it kept Barrett off the court for an extended period as the Raptors worked through rehab and return-to-play progressions.
Barrett’s absence coincided with a skid in Toronto’s form, forcing the Raptors to rely on Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley to shoulder offensive and defensive responsibilities in his place.
The 25-year-old forward had been averaging 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game on 50.6% shooting in 17 starts prior to the injury, providing one of Toronto’s most consistent scoring options.
He was ruled out of Friday’s game against the Washington Wizards as he continued his recovery, but Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic described his progress as encouraging. He told reporters that Barrett has been progressing “really well” and is considered day‑to‑day moving forward (via SportNet’s Blake Murphy).

However, Raptors fans received a more positive update on Saturday. After participating fully in Friday’s practice and engaging in full contact work, Barrett was upgraded to questionable for Sunday’s matchup against Golden State, signaling that he could be cleared to play.
Barrett’s potential return provides a much-needed boost for a Toronto lineup that has gone 6-9 in his absence. His scoring, playmaking and efficiency have been sorely missed over the past 15 games, and with his presence back in the rotation, the Raptors can anticipate improved offensive balance and spacing.
The Raptors welcome the Warriors to Scotiabank Arena on Sunday, with tip-off at 3:30 p.m. ET. Barrett’s availability will be a key storyline heading into the matchup, as Toronto looks to regain momentum with one of its stars back on the court.
