Rare signed Michael Jordan basketball card sells for record $1.4 million

An ultra-rare signed Michael Jordan basketball card sold for $1.44 million at auction, according to TMZ Sports, breaking the previous record for a Jordan card by more than $500,000.

The card is a 1997 Upper Deck Game Jersey Jordan card and is one of 23 ever produced. It is numbered eight-of-23, features a clear signature and has a piece of the jersey Jordan wore during the 1992 All-Star Game. PSA graded the card "Near Mint 7" and the signature "Near Mint 8."

The previous record for a Jordan card was $915,000 for a green-shaded 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gem card.

The value of Jordan memorabilia skyrocketed after ESPN's "The Last Dance" premiered last year.
