The Toronto Raptors drop their Summer League finale to the San Antonio Spurs 100-89.
The Raptors were without Jonathan Mogbo, Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji and Javon Freeman-Liberty.
Despite the loss there were a lot of positive takeaway for the Raptors from this one:
Chomche had a solid game to closeout his Summer League. The 18-year-old has tremendous defensive upside. He had 5 blocked shots in this game. He already looks like an impactful defensive player and there is still so much more room for him to grow. Chomche needs to work on finishing inside, but his rim protection was impressive.
Walter had a nice outing against the Spurs. He moved well in space and without the ball. His shooting efficiency is still a work in progress but he looked a lot more comfortable. He had a nice stepback three and did a great job of being aggressive, getting to the free throw line 8 times. Walter also displayed some nice on ball defense, showcasing his 3-and-D potential.
Shead finished up his Summer League with a nice performance. He did everything on the floor. Shead finished with 18 points, 6 assists, 4 blocks, 1 block and 1 steal. He shot it well from the field (7-15), although he didn’t make a three (0-2). Shead showcased some nice playmaking and operated well in the pick-and-roll with Branden Carlson. His defence continues to be strong. Shead’s motor and high energy was on full display throughout the Raptors 5 games.
Some other standouts were Carlson who finished the game with 11 points and 5 rebounds. D.J Carton who finished with 17 points and Canadian Quincy Guerrier who chipped in with 10 points from off the bench.
The Raptors finish up Summer League with a 2-3 record. They got off to a hot start at 2-0 but then dropped their last three games.
Overall, there was a lot of encouraging play for the Raptors in Summer League, particularly from the rookies.
