Report: Blockbuster Celtics Offseason Trade Is Possible

As fluke-like as their Eastern Conference Semifinals loss to the New York Knicks might have felt to some, the Boston Celtics could take their inability to repeat as NBA champions as a sign that big changes are needed.

According to Forbes NBA insider Evan Sidery, the NBA teams are currently under the impression that All-Star guard/forward Jaylen Brown is "not completely untouchable as the NBA offseason approaches. Sidery noted that the Celtics would need "a mammoth offer" to consider trading Brown, but that the possibility is "in play."

"There’s a sense among rival teams that Jaylen Brown is not completely untouchable on the Celtics’ roster. It would take a mammoth offer for Boston to even consider trading Brown, but the possibility certainly appears in play," Sidery wrote.

Brown was drafted third overall out of Cal in the 2016 NBA Draft and has played all nine of his seasons for the team. He's played in over 600 regular season games and another 135 playoff games, averaging over 19 points across all of them. He was the MVP of the 2024 NBA Finals.

The 2024-25 season saw a bit of a decline in production for Brown in some ways. Despite averaging 34.3 minutes per night, he had his lowest per game points average since the 2019-20 season. Brown also saw some dips in his field goal and three-point percentages.

That said, he did see a noted increase in assists per game

Brown played his part in the Celtics bowing out against their hated rivals from Madison Square Garden, but was also a huge reason they got there in the first place.

If Boston really decide that the team is right for both sides to move on, they're likely going to command a king's ransom. They'll probably get a lot more than what the Dallas Mavericks got for Luka Doncic, but that's not really a fair comparison.
