Day’Ron Sharpe, a former late first-round pick, has steadily improved and contributed more over four seasons playing for the Brooklyn Nets. The franchise will now be keeping him around for two more with his reported deal coming in free agency.
Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Nets will be signing Sharpe to a two-year contract worth $12 million. That’s a contract at a value of six million dollars that’ll keep him in Brooklyn through 2027.
“Free agent big man Day’Ron Sharpe intends to sign a two-year, $12 million deal to return to the Brooklyn Nets, sources tell ESPN,” Charania tweeted this morning.
Sharpe has appeared in 141 games, just 14 of those being starts, through four years playing for the Nets, averaging 6.5 points (55% FG), 5.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. That’s with him having spent much of his rookie season with their G-League affiliate with the Long Island Nets. Sharpe recently had some career-best numbers this past season in Brooklyn at 7.9 points (52.1% FG), 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 18.1 minutes over 50 games played.
Sharpe was the No. 29 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. He was traded as part of the draft to Brooklyn for a pair of veteran guards and a trade exception going to Phoenix.
That’s after Sharpe, a Five-Star+ prospect who was a Top-20 recruit and the No. 3 C in 2021 per On3, played a one-and-done season for North Carolina. He arrived in Chapel Hill as part of the No. 3 recruiting class that cycle alongside five other known, Top-100 recruits with Caleb Love, Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz), RJ Davis, Puff Johnson, and Kerwin Walton. He posted 9.5 points (51.9% FG), 7.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for the Tar Heels during their final season under Roy Williams in which UNC went 18-11 and lost in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
The Nets have gone through a large transition over Sharpe’s four seasons with the franchise, going from having Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden to this season being led by Cameron Johnson and Nic Claxton. With that, Brooklyn has had five different acting head coaches and had a poorer record in each of the past three years. That transition is continuing with a young roster that just got even younger with five first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Of all those pieces, though, Sharpe, set to be a restricted free agent, is among the first that they’ve retained – with them reportedly signing Ziaire Williams to nearly the exact same deal this morning as well per Charania. He’ll now be staying with the team for at least two more seasons while tripling his salary in the meantime over those pair of years.
