The Atlanta Hawks just got bounced. Now comes the hard part.
According to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, the idea of Atlanta moving former No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher “can’t be ruled out.”
Risacher, selected first overall in 2024, never quite found his footing this season. He lost his starting job after the All-Star break and eventually fell out of the rotation entirely in April, a surprising development for a player taken at the top of the draft.
The Hawks had bigger problems, of course. They were just handled by the New York Knicks in the first round. Still, this is the kind of thing that gets attention.
Teams do not usually move on from a No. 1 pick this quickly. Then again, most No. 1 picks are not fighting for minutes by the end of Year 2.
The goal, per Hollinger, is getting Risacher “back on track” and into a rotation role. If that cannot happen in Atlanta, the alternative is obvious.
Sometimes a reset makes sense. Sometimes it happens faster than anyone expects.
The Hawks may be approaching that point.
