According to Grant Afseth of RG, the Atlanta Hawks spoke with the Sacramento Kings about a Trae Young trade.
However, talks stalled.
The Kings are looking for a point guard after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs. They are interested in trading for Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Darius Garland.
Young, who has spent his entire career with the Hawks, is eligible to sign an extension this offseason.
“While Sacramento has interest in Garland, multiple league sources told RG that the Atlanta Hawks have spoken with the Kings on a potential trade framework centered around Trae Young in recent weeks,” Afseth wrote. “However, those talks have since stalled.
“The outcome of Young’s contract talks — with the guard eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension — is being monitored closely by teams around the league. For teams seeking a shot creator and playmaker, he could be an attainable option to pursue. Atlanta appears to be conducting due diligence in the event a trade is necessary.”
Young averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 11.6 assists for the Hawks this season while shooting 41.1% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc and 87.5% from the free-throw line.
A four-time All-Star, Young will make $45,999,660 next season. He has a player option worth $48,967,380 for the 2026-27 season.
Young led the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. He has career averages of 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists.
