Report: Heat trying to trade Terry Rozier, having no luck

The Miami Heat wouldn’t mind trading point guard Terry Rozier. But other teams have a say in that, and from the sounds of things, those teams are saying they’re not interested.

According to Ethan Skolnick of SI.com and the Five On The Floor podcast, the Heat have tried trading Rozier — to no avail.

“(T)he Heat have been actively shopping the expiring final year of Rozier’s contract (worth $24-26 million depending on incentives) for just about anything, but specifically frontcourt help,” Skolnick wrote. “They have found no takers. Other teams saw Rozier’s dramatic decline as well: including a lot of overdribbling into bad shots.”

Rozier, 31, averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 64 games last season. It was his worst year, numbers-wise, since he was a reserve playing less than half the game with the Boston Celtics in 2018-19.

He has also been linked to a gambling investigation, as Skolnick noted.

“Also, while Rozier was cleared by the NBA for any role in a fantasy sports and gambling scandal tied to his tenure with Charlotte, prior to joining the Heat, the FBI launched its own investigation,” Skolnick wrote. “There is no timetable on when that investigation will conclude. Until it does, one league insider told Five Reasons Sports that Rozier is considered ‘toxic’ in a trade.”

Multiple reports say the Heat have recently worked out veteran free agents in their search for frontcourt help. The list includes center Kai Jones and big man Trey Lyles.
