According to Grant Afseth of RG, there is “increasing doubt” that the San Antonio Spurs will trade for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant

The Suns have talked to the Spurs, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks about a Durant trade, a league source told Hoops Wire.

Durant prefers to get traded to the Spurs, a source told Hoops Wire, but it appears San Antonio and Phoenix can’t agree to a deal.

Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t force his way to the Spurs.

“The San Antonio Spurs remain active in offseason discussions, but league sources tell RG there is increasing doubt the team will ultimately land Kevin Durant via trade — and the present expectation is that the Spurs will use the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft to select Dylan Harper, barring a surprise development,” Afseth wrote.

“Sources stress that the situation remains fluid less than two weeks before the NBA Draft, but as of June 12, doubt is increasing that Durant will land in San Antonio and there appears to be no clear traction. While the Spurs have continued to be one of the teams linked to Durant, league observers question whether there is enough potential alignment between the Spurs and Suns on a possible trade.”

Durant has one year left on his contract. The 36-year-old, who turns 37 in the fall, will make $54.7 million next season.

A future Hall of Famer, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. The NBA legend was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team in 2022.

Durant won two titles and two Finals MVPs (2017, 2018) with the Warriors. However, he hasn’t gotten back to the NBA Finals since leaving Golden State for Brooklyn in 2019.

Durant has also been swept in the first round of the postseason twice since departing the Warriors.

The Spurs have the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. They have a bright future with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox leading the way.
