Report: Los Angeles Lakers’ Strong Stance on Potential LeBron James Extension, Revealed

It comes as no surprise that all of a sudden, questions have arisen surrounding LeBron James‘ future with the Los Angeles Lakers. This is after LA suffered a brutal Game 5 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday, thereby marking the end of yet another disappointing campaign for the Lakers.

While there has been talk about the Lakers potentially parting ways with LeBron, contrary reports indicate that the organization remains fully committed to the 39-year-old as their cornerstone superstar.

Los Angeles Lakers to Offer LeBron James 3-Year Extension

According to a report by Shams Charania, Jovan Buha, and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Lakers want LeBron back “badly.” Regardless of how this season might have ended, LA’s desire to retire James as a Laker remains as strong as ever.

As such, the front office is reportedly lining up a contract extension offer for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer:

“After six seasons together in which there has been no shortage of ups and downs, (Lakers owner Jeanie Buss) and James, team sources say, have a relationship that is better than ever these days.

“The Lakers, team sources say, would be open to discussing any deal that involves James coming back — including even the maximum three-year, $164 million extension they can offer. Playing through a three-year deal would put him at 42 by the end of the contract,” read the report.

The big question now, though, is whether or not LeBron is willing to put pen to paper on a new deal. This could very well be James’ final contract, and as of right now, there have been no indications that LeBron is guaranteed to remain in LA.

It’s going to be a very interesting summer in Hollywood, to say the least.
