It appears that Toronto will have to watch its breakout player from last season, Sandro Mamukelashvili, test the open market after having a career season.

“We keep hearing that the Clippers, no matter what happens with the Leonard talks, could choose to be quite active in unrestricted free agency if they opt to function as a team with salary-cap space.”

After a career year in almost all major categories, Mamu is set to hit free agency after signing a steal of a contract last season with the Raptors, where he signed a 2 year $5,262,809, but the second year was a player option, and after a successful season where he even gained a few sixth man of the year votes, that would be a huge underpay. He had some flashes in San Antonio and Milwaukee, but Toronto offered him a consistent role that he never got before.
According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Toronto is preparing to lose the Georgian as teams are prepared to offer Mamu a contract north of $10 million, which would really complicate things for Toronto, as their cap space is practically nonexistent at the moment.
The draft might have been an indicator of that, as many fans wanted a guard at pick 19 for Toronto, but the Raptors decided to go with Allen Graves, listed at 6 feet 9 inches, just like Mamukelashvili, and he’s just 20 pounds lighter than Mamu.
It appears the only way Mamu can stay in Toronto is if some trades are made, and with Toronto being in the running for Kawhi Leonard and Jaylen Brown, perhaps Mamu’s time in Toronto isn’t over for certain, but it is looking likely that this is it for Sandro in Toronto.
