According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, the Denver Nuggets are interested in Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome.
Jerome becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
“Sources say the Nuggets have interest in Jerome, but they will probably be a first-round team,” Fedor wrote. “One Eastern Conference executive who spoke with cleveland.com estimated Jerome’s valuation to be $12-14 million annually — right around the non-taxpayer midlevel exception ($14.1 million) and a dollar figure that does not surpass what the Cavs could offer.
“A bigger payday once seemed plausible — until Jerome’s horrendous second-round performance against speedy, athletic, feisty Indiana who exposed some of his most worrisome traits, especially on defense, as the Pacers treated him as a figurative traffic cone. Those more lucrative multi-year contracts are typically reserved for starter-quality lead guards — and Jerome is primarily viewed as a backup, finishing third in Sixth Man of the Year voting.”
Jerome appeared in 70 games for the Cavaliers this season. He averaged 12.5 points while shooting 51.6% from the field, 43.9% from 3 and 87.2% from the free-throw line.
Cleveland beat the Miami Heat in the first round of this year’s playoffs in four games but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round in five games. Jerome, 27, averaged 11.7 points against the Heat and Pacers while shooting 40.2% overall and 38.9% from beyond the arc.
The Nuggets lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals in seven games. They won the championship in 2023 against the Heat, but have lost in the second round two years in a row.
Jerome has played for the Phoenix Suns, Thunder, Golden State Warriors and Cavaliers. He has career averages of 8.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
