Report reveals Warriors' surprising trade deadline plans

The Golden State Warriors have the trade assets to make a move ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline. The franchise has been struggling this season, finding themselves sitting 10th in the Western Conference with a 17-18 record. As such, there have been some rumblings of a potential trade to try and turn the team's season around.

According to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, an in-season trade is unlikely for the Warriors. Instead, they will stay the course with their current roster before re-evaluating things in the offseason.

"The most likely outcome for Golden State at the deadline is they stand pat, try to get healthy, see how much better things look with Draymond Green back, and then make some hard choices come the summer," Helin wrote.

The Warriors are expecting to have Draymond Green back in the rotation in the coming days. The veteran forward has been cleared to play after missing the last 12 games due to an indefinite suspension. With the team's leader back in the rotation and the play of multiple veterans starting to improve, there is cause for optimism within the fanbase.

However, Golden State did receive a tough blow when Chris Paul fractured his hand against the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 5. He will miss between four to six weeks after undergoing surgery. Nevertheless, Golden State has been buoyed by the impressive play from some of their younger talents. Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody and Trayce Jackson-Davis have all impressed through the opening months of the season.

Golden State has been straddling two timelines in recent years. It would make no sense for the front office to stray from the plan midway through the season, regardless of who is or isn't available on the trade market.

Waiting until the offseason will allow for some thorough analysis of the team and what direction the franchise needs to take moving forward. A trade now would do nothing other than complicate things.
