According to Jay King of The Athletic, several contenders will pursue Jrue Holiday if the Boston Celtics look to trade him this summer.
The Celtics may have to break up their core this offseason since their payroll would reach about $500 million if no changes are made.
“Though Holiday dealt with lingering injuries throughout the regular season, his reputation as a known winner and top defender should interest several contending teams if the Celtics do look to move him, according to league sources,” King wrote.
The Celtics won the 2024 championship against the Dallas Mavericks in five games. They lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of this year’s playoffs in six games.
Boston star Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles tear in the New York series. He could miss the entire 2025-26 season.
Holiday told local reporters on Saturday that he wants to return to the Celtics. The two-time champion averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists in the regular season and 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in the postseason in seven games against the Orlando Magic and Knicks.
Holiday will make $32,400,000 next season. He has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics. The UCLA product has career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
