Report: Spurs ‘Not Going To Go All In’ To Acquire Kevin Durant From Suns

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the San Antonio Spurs are “not going to go all in” to acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns.

The Spurs are Durant’s No. 1 preferred landing spot, but he can’t control where he gets traded because he doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.

“Well, it’s again the question of does Kevin change his stance on any of the teams not on his list. Now, I keep making this distinction,” Amick said on Sactown Sports 1140. “My understanding, like you have the list and that’s like the thing his camp chooses to leak to the media. And then you have like the real stuff where what Kevin is telling people.

“And we’ve come across some of that stuff and there’s reason to believe he’s looking at San Antonio above the rest. Now, as you know Dave because you and I lived it with the (De’Aaron) Fox trade, we just saw how the Spurs had zero intention or willingness to give up anything on their roster, let alone anybody in their young core.

“I don’t know that that has changed all that much. The way it’s put to me, they’re not going to go all in to get Kevin.”

The Spurs missed the playoffs again this year, but they have the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle. Their future appears to be extremely bright.

The Suns are expected to trade Durant before the 2025 NBA Draft. Durant, 36, has one year left on his contract.

A top 75 player of all time, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season. The 15-time All-Star shot 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

Along with the Spurs, Durant is open to getting traded to the Houston Rockets or Miami Heat. The two-time Finals MVP doesn’t want to get traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
