According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Phoenix Suns will not trade Devin Booker this offseason.
Booker, who has spent his entire career with the Suns, is involved with the team’s coaching search.
“The Stein Line has learned that Suns star Devin Booker has had a level of involvement with candidates in this stage of interviews, further illustrating owner Mat Ishbia’s loudly stated determination to keep Booker in place as the team’s cornerstone,” Stein wrote. “It’s believed Ishbia will have face-to-face discussions next week with the candidates (likely two) who progress from this round.”
Booker appeared in 75 games this season. He averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists while shooting 46.1% from the field, 33.2% from beyond the arc and 89.4% from the free-throw line.
A four-time All-Star, Booker has scored the most points in Phoenix franchise history. He has career averages of 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
The Suns lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021 NBA Finals. They haven’t had much postseason success since then.
One of the top scorers in the NBA, Booker didn’t have a good relationship with Mike Budenholzer, who was fired after just one season in the desert. Ironically, Budenholzer was the head coach of the Bucks in the 2021 NBA Finals.
Booker was the 13th overall pick in the 2015 draft. He scored 70 points against the Boston Celtics in Boston during the 2016-17 season.
Most people around the NBA believe Phoenix will trade Kevin Durant this summer and find a way to part ways with Bradley Beal, who has a no-trade clause in his contract.
