Report: Unexpected outcome with Chris Paul on the table for Wizards

The Washington Wizards aren't ready to press the 'go' button on the trade sending Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns just yet. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Wizards are attempting to see what they can bring back in exchange for Chris Paul.

Not only that, but it appears everything is on the table for the Wizards when it comes to Paul. Wojnarowski joined SportsCenter on Monday to discuss the trade and specifically the situation with the 38-year-old guard.

One surprising plot twist that appears to be on the table for Washington, per Woj, is an outcome where Paul is their point guard this upcoming season.

"Washington has left this trade with Phoenix open. They have not finalized it with the league to see if they can bring in a third team to accommodate Chris Paul, get him to a contender, see if they can get any assets back. Perhaps a draft pick and expiring contracts for Chris Paul.

That may not be easy—I don't think it's going to be easy, at 38 years old, for Chris Paul. And understand this, Washington can imagine a world where they would like Chris Paul to be their point guard this season. They're not trying to be really bad. They may bring back Kyle Kuzma, Kristaps Porzingis," Wojnarowski explained.

It's an eye-opening final two lines there, specifically the fact that the Wizards "would like" Paul to be their point guard in 2023. While that appears to be a longshot, and the likely outcome points to Paul playing elsewhere next season, it does show that literally anything is on the table right now for the team.

Woj did go on to explain that the conversations about a buyout will "certainly start" at some point, but that the Wizards are in "no hurry" to begin that discussion. Assuming the situation with Paul extends for any decent period of time, it could make things interesting for the teams with their sights on adding him as a potential free agent. There's a possibility that this outcome could play in the Wizards' favor and help them eventually get something in return for the veteran guard via trade.
