Rich Paul could sell Klutch Sports Group to UTA (United Talent Agency) to help LeBron James become the face of the Las Vegas NBA expansion team, according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

James, 41, could retire from the NBA after this season, as his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers is set to expire.

“Beyond James’ next team as a player, there’s a rumor going around the league that he will be the face of the NBA’s expansion team in Las Vegas,” Pincus wrote. “One line of thinking is that he might retire, and his agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, might sell the rest of his agency to UTA (United Talent Agency). With financial backing, they then might look to step into ownership roles. … Rumors are fun, sometimes true, but it’s too early to put weight into this one. Still, it’s been bouncing around for several years and is worth keeping an eye on.”

James has a net worth of roughly $1.3 billion. He’s the first active NBA player to become a billionaire.

A future Hall of Famer, James has publicly coveted owning an NBA team one day. As an investor in Fenway Sports Group, he already owns stakes in pro baseball, soccer and hockey teams.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer, James has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers. He’s a four-time MVP, four-time champion and four-time Finals MVP. The sports legend is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.

If James doesn’t retire this offseason, he will likely re-sign with the Lakers or return to the Cavaliers for his third stint. James is the oldest active player in the NBA. He turns 42 in December.

A 22-time All-Star, James is averaging 21.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game for the Lakers this season. Los Angeles is in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.
