The Golden State Warriors brought a 3-1 series lead into Wednesday's Game 5 against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center. Looking to avoid heading back to Golden State for a Game 6, the Warriors are faced with the difficult task of closing out Houston on the road.
Making matters more difficult, the Warriors' two best players are playing hurt. Steph Curry has been dealing with a right thumb injury, while Jimmy Butler is playing through a deep glute muscle contusion that Steve Kerr said would have cost him multiple weeks had this been the regular season ( via Anthony Slater of The Athletic).
Up against well-known irritant Dillon Brooks, the Warriors are looking to eliminate the one-time All-Defensive forward for the second time in four years. Facing Brooks in the 2022 Western Conference Semifinals when he was with the Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State won that round, which was filled with a lot of controversy.
Brooks injured Warriors guard Gary Payton II in that series, and is now being accused of targeting Curry's injured right thumb.
"The Rockets appear to be targeting Steph's thumb early on," NBCS Warriors posted on X.

Closing out on a Curry 3-pointer, Brooks seemed to make contact with his right hand, which caught the attention of play-by-play announcer Bob Fitzgerald.
"This happened in Game 4 a couple times," he said. "They are targeting Curry's thumb. The whack on the right hand, that happened multiple times. They know he's been injured there."
Later in the first half, NBCS Warriors pointed out another swipe Brooks took at Curry's thumb.

"suspend brooks," a Warriors fan replied, tagging the NBA Official account.
"Brooks doesn’t know how not to be dirty," a fan added.
"Dirty plays," another wrote.
"They can't beat Steph in a clean way," one added.
"Dirty play," a fan wrote. "Their signature move."
After Brooks injured Payton in 2022, Kerr notably said he "broke the code" NBA players are to follow. Now, three postseasons later, the former Grizzlies forward is facing another accusation of dirty play.
