Rockets Sign Fred VanVleet To Three-Year Deal

Veteran point guard Fred VanVleet has signed a deal with the Houston Rockets. The contract is worth $130 million for three years, according to ESPN. The signing officially ends VanVleet's seven-year tenure with the Toronto Raptors.   

 "This summer has always been important to us for a lot of reasons," general manager Rafael Stone said. “We’re going to have the ability for the first time to really bring in veteran players and see if we can mesh the thing together.”

VanVleet was the Rockets' top target on the open market, and their desire marked the end of a potential reunion with James Harden, who is currently seeking a trade away from the Philadelphia 76ers.

VanVleet began his career as an undrafted prospect who signed with the Raptors in 2016. He became an All-Star in Toronto in 2022. But his most significant role came in 2019 when he helped the Raptors win their first and only NBA championship.

The 6-foot-0 guard has averaged 14.6 points on 40.2 percent shooting from the field, 5.3 assists and 1.3 steals across 417 career games. VanVleet scored 32 points on 12 of 26 shooting, 7 of 16 from deep, to lead the Raptors to a seven-point victory over the Rockets on Nov. 9.
