Rudy Gobert on Victor Wembanyama: 'He's unique, something the world has never seen'

Victor Wembanyama, the projected No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft, has garnered high praise throughout basketball circles before ever stepping foot on an NBA court.

At 7-foot-3, the athletic and well-rounded 18-year-old is already a force. However, his French National teammate Rudy Gobert says the best is yet to come from the young standout.

"He's unique, something the world has never seen," Gobert told Eric Walden of the Salt Lake Tribune on Saturday. "He's taller than me, longer than me. He can space the floor. He can pass. But, also wants to play defense - and just loves to win."

That's quite the endorsement for Wembanyama from a multiple-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year. But, even at his age, Wembanyama's resume speaks for itself.

Wembanyama represented his country Nationally in the FIBA U16 European Championships and FIBA U19 World Cup and has also played professionally in France since he was 15, suiting up for Nanterre 92, ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, and most recently, Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92.

Earlier this month, Wembanyama caught the attention of American crowds during a two-game exhibition in Las Vegas between Metropolitans 92 and the NBA G League Ignite.

After posting 37 points, four boards, and five blocks in a seven-point loss to the Ignite in Game 1, Wembanyama finished with 36 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and four assists in a 112-106 victory in Game 2.
