After completing his 17th NBA season and first with the Denver Nuggets, nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook declined his $3.4 million player option for 2025-26 and entered free agency. Posting averages of 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 75 games for Denver, Westbrook projected to have suitors in free agency, but he remains unsigned as training camps near.

The Sacramento Kings have been linked to Westbrook, but Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report reported last month that they are the only team interested in the 2017 league MVP — and there is a chance he could stay unsigned.

While he announced in an Instagram post earlier this offseason that he intends to play an 18th season, the former Oklahoma City Thunder star may be closer to retirement than it previously seemed.

As his basketball future remains uncertain, Westbrook has continued making moves off the court. This includes new clothing drops for his Honor the Gift brand, philanthropic giving with his Why Not? Foundation and business ventures with Westbrook Enterprises and RW Digital.

Russell Westbrook Makes Off-Court Announcement During NBA Offseason

Last week, Westbrook made a personal announcement about his new partnership with N4XT Experiences (via Westbrook Enterprises). He joined the board as a Resident Curator and investor. In Wednesday's edition of his Word of Westbrook newsletter, the NBA's all-time triple-doubles leader sent a message about this announcement.

"This year was a little different for me," Westbrook said of his recent trip to New York. "Instead of bouncing around to a ton of shows, I announced my new partnership with N4XT Experiences – coming on board as both an investor and Resident Curator. Together, we’ll be focusing on elevating the cultural programming around New York and LA Fashion Weeks."

He added, "For me, it’s a perfect fit. N4XT is a leader in event production, and teaming up gives us the chance to keep pushing fashion forward while strengthening the community that surrounds it."

Westbrook's off-court endeavors are not new. Just this summer he has put on youth basketball clinics, hosted a back to school event for his Westbrook Academy, celebrated the fifth year of his Why Not? Foundation Poker Night and more. This latest announcement with N4XT expands Westbrook's growing business portfolio.

With over $340 million in career NBA earnings, and several high-paying personal deals off the court, Westbrook's desire to continue playing professional basketball says a lot. A member of the league's 75th Anniversary Team, Westbrook will be in the Hall of Fame when eligible, yet he is seemingly still focused on playing at least one more season.
