Russell Westbrook's Message to Teammate Catches Attention After Bucks Game

Russell Westbrook started his 18th NBA season as a member of the Sacramento Kings, signing with the franchise late into the offseason to continue showcasing his value in the NBA. The former MVP is hoping to be the difference-maker for a Kings roster led by DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis.

Westbrook is a key bench option for the Kings behind Dennis Schroder, averaging 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists in six games this season. While it isn't a starting role, Westbrook is ensuring he can be effective when he is on the court. Whether it's his leadership or endless on-court battles, Westbrook has already had a positive impact within his role on the 2-4 Kings.

The Kings are coming off a 135-133 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Westbrook contributed 12 points and 10 assists in the game, but his impact was felt in more ways. His on-court leadership was on full display as he willingly accepted the task of guarding Giannis Antetokounmpo when Sabonis was in foul trouble.

Westbrook was seen on camera clearly telling Sabonis after he decided on the defensive switch to protect the Lithuanian center from fouling out late in the game.

Sabonis ended the game with 24 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, playing an important role in closing out the win over a red-hot Bucks squad. Westbrook might not be in the starting five, but he's giving the Kings value whenever he replaces or plays alongside Schroder on the court.

It'll be an uphill battle for the Kings to make it into playoff consideration, given the depth of talent in the West, but nights like the one they had against the Bucks show what they're capable of. They're in a three-way tie from 12th to 14th in the West alongside the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks.

Sacramento visits the Denver Nuggets at 9 p.m. ET Monday.
