Russell Westbrook's NBA Future Receives Major Update on Monday

With NBA free agency right around the corner, all eyes are on where some of the league’s biggest names might land — and one name still stirring plenty of buzz is Russell Westbrook

After a rollercoaster season with the Denver Nuggets, the veteran guard’s future there looks shakier by the day. Meanwhile, rumors are heating up that the New York Knicks could be a serious contender to scoop him up. One thing is certain: Westbrook’s next move could shake up the market in a big way.

Westbrook, who played a significant role for Denver last season, is now working his way back after having surgery to fix multiple ligament tears in his right hand. The 36-year-old decided to turn down his $3.47 million player option earlier this month, which means he’s officially an unrestricted free agent and free to see what’s out there for him next.

According to insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the New York Knicks are seriously eyeing the former MVP, joining teams like the Pelicans, Timberwolves and maybe even the Kings in the mix. After a subpar postseason run with the Nuggets especially during their loss to OKC, Westbrook’s future in Denver feels uncertain, especially with talk of a possible Bruce Brown reunion there.

For the Knicks, though, adding Westbrook could be a big boost off the bench, giving them a clear upgrade over backup guards like Delon Wright and Cameron Payne.

Even at 36, Russ still brings that trademark energy, rebounding and playmaking any contender would love. New Orleans and Minnesota could also make a push, but New York might be Westbrook’s best shot at meaningful minutes on a team looking to make a real playoff run.
