The Sacramento Kings only possess a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, as things currently stand. They may be looking to change that.
Scott Perry took over as general manager this offseason. With the Kings suffering a disappointing 2024-25 season, there should be a concerted effort to revamp the team in some shape, way, or form.
If rebuilding is the route that Perry wants to take, this year's draft is expected to have a lot of talent to choose from. Sacrificing some portion of their current roster may be the necessary price to pay for a chance to select one of those premier prospects.
One of the routes that could be explored to get into the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft is a deal with the Utah Jazz, according to Jake Fischer. This was a point the insider touched on in his latest intel drop.
Fischer wrote, "It might be worth filing away that Utah, league sources say, previously showed interest in Carter when the Jazz engaged the Kings on Lauri Markkanen trade concepts during the 2024 offseason."
The NBA insider added, "The Jazz hold the No. 21 overall pick Wednesday night, which is right in the range of Sacramento's presumed trade ambitions."
However, there may be an opportunity to get creative as well. The Oklahoma City Thunder have more picks than they know what to do with. Attempting to pry one of their first-round selections away is something that is also on the radar.
"Multiple teams consulted Tuesday said they believe Sacramento has held talks aimed at setting up the acquisition of the No. 24 selection from Oklahoma City," Fischer noted.
The Kings are in that tricky middling position in the NBA where something has to be done to not be stuck in play-in mediocrity. Sacramento should be one of the more interesting teams to follow on draft night.
