Sacramento Kings Offseason Update

The Sacramento Kings entered the 2025 NBA offseason with large plans. The Kings’ so-called offseason vision has leaked to the general public, but in reality, the Kings might not match or surpass the expectations after all. Read on for the latest Kings offseason update.

Sacramento Kings’ Offseason Hopes

The Sacramento Kings appear to have high hopes this offseason. The Athletic’s Sam Amick recently reported that the Kings have been willing to offer Malik Monk and a first-round pick to the Golden State Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga.

Amick wrote in a recent article, “As for the Kings, which last spoke with the Warriors earlier this week, team sources say they’ve offered a three-year, $63 million deal for Kuminga in a proposal that would send veteran guard Malik Monk and their 2030 first-round pick (lottery protected) to the Warriors. If that pick didn’t convey, then the Warriors would get the least favorable of the Kings or San Antonio’s first-round pick in 2031.

“Those protections have been the primary sticking point, team sources said, as the Warriors have insisted that the first-rounder be unprotected. Thus, the stalemate.”

Amick’s article has attracted attention on X, formerly Twitter. One user responded to NBACentral’s post with the question, “Why would the Warriors not say yes?” Another user wrote to NBACentral, “Nah, that’s a Sacramento pipe dream! Warriors ain’t budging, they know Kuminga’s a star.”

Kings’ Regular Season Outlook

The Sacramento Kings seem to have a strong desire to achieve regular season success entering the 2025-26 NBA season. Though the Kings aren’t guaranteed to become contenders this upcoming season, we’ll see. According to Forbes’ Evan Sidery, the Kings want to add Russell Westbrook and Jonathan Kuminga. However, Westbrook, 36, is reportedly waiting on the outcome of the Kings’ negotiations with the Golden State Warriors for Kuminga, 22, before signing.

Sidery wrote in a recent post on X, “The Kings are hoping to acquire both Jonathan Kuminga and Russell Westbrook. As Sacramento negotiates a sign-and-trade for Kuminga with the Warriors, Westbrook is waiting for a resolution there before he signs. Kuminga is holding up the free agent market with this stalemate.”

Final Thoughts

The Sacramento Kings entered the offseason needing to upgrade the point guard position and managed to do so with the acquisition of Dennis Schroeder in a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons. The Kings previously traded star Guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.

The Kings are reportedly looking to add another veteran point guard. Preferably, Russell Westbrook who has a mutual interest in getting a deal done. If a deal is finalized, Westbrook would be an upgrade in the Kings’ point guard position, and the Kings could increase their chances of winning next season. The Kings’ playoff hopes should be alright unless Domantas Sabonis suffers an injury and/or DeMar DeRozan declines.
