The San Antonio Spurs received the second overall pick of this summer’s NBA Draft. With Cooper Flagg likely to go No. 1 and join the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio is in a unique position to either add another building block or use the pick as trade bait to acquire a star.
According to ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony, the San Antonio Spurs are expected to keep the No. 2 pick and use it to take Dylan Harper from Rutgers.
“Dylan Harper is going to the be the No. 2 pick in the Draft. I am 99.9% sure about it. He looked really, really good. Tested very well. Shot it well. His body is in a great place. he’s lost 15 pounds in the last year. he’s also grown,” Givony explained.
“He has measurements comparable of those to Dwyane Wade coming out of college. The San Antonio Spurs are signaling to teams that they are very excited about the opportunity to draft Dylan Harper,” he added.
Danny Green believes that the San Antonio Spurs are a viable destination for Giannis Antetokounmpo , whose future is uncertain with the Milwaukee Bucks after another early playoff exit. However, San Antonio can only pull it off if they part ways with the second overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.
“He wants to go to a tax-friendly state so Florida is an option but I just don’t think Miami or Orlando has the pieces to get him,” Green said on NBA Today.
“I think he ends up in Houston or San Antonio,” he continued. “He’s going to stay in Texas with Dallas keeping their pick. Only three other teams… he’s not going to Memphis, I don’t know if Memphis has the pieces either. But the only other tax-free states that I can think of is Texas, Tennessee, and Florida.”
