The San Antonio Spurs have missed out on Kevin Durant, but that won’t stop them from bolstering their frontcourt depth this summer.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the San Antonio Spurs are reportedly interested in signing soon-to-be free agent Guerschon Yabusele, who spent his 2024-25 campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers and played with Victor Wembanyama on the French national team during the Paris Olympics.
“Philadelphia 76ers forward Guerschon Yabusele made a triumphant return to the NBA, averaging 11 points on 50.1 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent beyond the arc while grabbing 5.6 rebounds in 27.1 minutes per game,” Scotto stated.
“After proving himself as a consistent NBA player, Yabusele is set to cash in this summer as an unrestricted free agent. The San Antonio Spurs are among several teams expected to have interest in Yabusele during free agency, league sources told HoopsHype,” he added.
Mitch Johnson is assembling his staff after being handed the head coaching job by the president of basketball operations, Gregg Popovich, and he will have a new face on the sideline.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN , the San Antonio Spurs have hired Sean Sweeney to be the team’s new associate head coach. Sweeney previously coached for the Dallas Mavericks as one of Jason Kidd’s top assistants.
Sweeney’s NBA coaching career began with the Brooklyn Nets as a video coordinator before being named an assistant coach ahead of the 2013-14 season. The 55-year-old was previously a candidate for the Phoenix Suns’ head coaching position before Jordan Ott took it.
