Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant supposedly has the San Antonio Spurs on his wish list of potential trade destinations.
The Spurs reportedly have interest, though it appears they’re taking a conservative approach to such talks. And one opposing scout says the Spurs should avoid a Durant trade entirely.
“I wouldn’t even consider it if I’m the Spurs,” the scout told Hoops Wire. “If there’s one thing the past several Finals have taught us, it’s that the Big Three era is dead. And if things don’t go well very quickly, we’ve seen that (Durant) will just want to move on.”
Durant will be 37 at the start of next season. He remains a top-notch scorer. The scout added that Durant is “a good guy and great teammate.” The idea that he’d be a fit alongside the likes of Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, however, “is dangerous thinking,” the scout added.
“Look, if he’s 27, it’s a no-brainer. But he’s not,” he said. “He won’t put San Antonio over the top. They need to give the keys to their young guys and let them go. Durant will score a lot, but the ball will be out of the hands of their future.
“So here’s some free advice for San Antonio: Stay the course. Stay away from the 35-and-over crowd. Those guys are just numbers guys now. Unless they are willing to take the role of a third option — and most aren’t — then stay away. You won’t go anywhere special. Stay far, far away from Kevin Durant.”
